4/20 Anaheim, CA – Four-Vehicle Collision Injures Several on 5 Fwy

Artesia, CA – Injuries Reported Following Ten-Vehicle Crash on 91 FWY

Artesia, CA (November 3, 2022) – On Thursday morning, November 3, a multi-car accident involving ten vehicles was reported in Artesia that resulted in many people sustaining injuries and causing significant traffic delays.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred in the morning, around 6 a.m. The accident occurred on the westbound 91 Freeway, west of Pioneer Boulevard. Multiple vehicles merged into the same space on the road near the carpool lane and collided, which caused many more vehicles to collide with the initial vehicles involved. Initial reports and calls to 911 indicated a truck was blocking the carpool lane, but subsequent reports reported nine other vehicles were involved in the multi-car pile-up.

Paramedics were called to the scene to help those hurt in the accident. Several people were trapped in their vehicles and required firefighters to use hydraulic tools to extricate the victims. Firefighters were able to remove the people from the wreckage and rushed them to a local hospital for emergency treatment. It is not clear at this time how many people were injured as a result of the accident. There is also no information regarding the victims’ conditions.

The force of the impact caused major damage to the vehicles and caused traffic to be backed up. The carpool lane, plus two additional lanes were blocked by the crash. Traffic was diverted while crews helped people from their cars, tended to injuries, and cleaned up the wreckage.

The authorities are still investigating the exact circumstances surrounding the crash and the events leading up to the collision.

Our thoughts are with the victims injured in this accident. We hope for the full recovery of all involved.

Car Accidents in California

Car accidents happen every day in California and may result in serious injuries. In addition to the long commutes and traffic jams, there are often many multi-vehicle collisions on California’s roads. California has many complex freeway systems that have multiple lanes of high-speed traffic. With the high speeds that drivers travel at, cars often weave in and out of traffic and can seem to come out of nowhere, which often leads to accidents. Due to congested roads, what starts as a collision between two vehicles, very quickly can involve many more vehicles, as other vehicles in the vicinity may be unable to avoid the collision. Especially if the impact causes the initial vehicles to lose control of their vehicle, they can travel out of control and collide with other vehicles. When vehicles are involved in a multi-car pile-up, the outcomes are often devastating, resulting in serious injuries or fatalities. In addition to the structure of the roadways that make them oftentimes challenging to traverse, and the congestion, there are other factors that increase the likelihood of multi-vehicle collisions, including:

  • Following too closely
  • High speeds
  • Changing lanes without signaling
  • Changing lanes too quickly
  • Blind spots
  • Stopping suddenly
  • Inclement weather
  • Lack of space for large commercial trucks to merge
