California is home to over 27 million registered vehicles and is one of the most populated places to drive in the country. Every day the roads are flooded with traffic and are extremely busy with long commutes and traffic jams. In California, accidents happen frequently, and many result in serious injury or death. More than 3,500 people die in traffic accidents each year in California and this increases each year. In 2022, more than 1,000 people died in fatal traffic accidents in the first three months alone.
A head-on collision can happen when a driver crosses over the centerline or when driving in the wrong direction. Head-on collisions are often the most dangerous kinds of crashes, especially when they occur on highways, due to the high rate of speed that the vehicles are traveling at. Head-on collisions are often caused by reckless driving. Reckless driving is the number one cause of accidents in California. Reckless driving includes texting while driving, speeding, impaired driving, or failing to yield or stop at traffic lights and stop signs.
Each driver on the road owes a legal duty of care to the other drivers on the road that they will operate their vehicle safely and responsibly to look out for the safety of others. When an accident happens, this legal duty of care has likely been breached and they can be held liable for the resulting damages.
