Bakersfield, CA – Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident on Roberts LN

Bakersfield, CA (September 24, 2022) – On Wednesday, September 21, a hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian was reported in Bakersfield that resulted in the tragic death of the person that was hit.

According to reports, the accident occurred on Roberts Lane, west of Belmont Avenue a little after 9:30 p.m. California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that a man was walking on the westbound side of Roberts Lane when he was suddenly struck by a pickup truck of an unknown make and model. The pedestrian was severely injured lying on the side of the road after being hit. The pickup truck did not stop to check on the pedestrian but instead fled the accident scene.

Emergency personnel and paramedics were immediately called. They arrived on the scene within minutes and assessed the pedestrian’s injuries and provided medical care. The man was transported by ambulance to Kern Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead from the injuries he sustained in the accident. The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.

Police are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the accident and are looking for information regarding the driver of the vehicle.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this tragedy.

Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accidents in California

There are a lot of pedestrians walking along California’s roads. In California, there are more pedestrian accidents reported than in any of the other states in the United States. Drivers must always watch for pedestrians and do all they can to avoid causing harm to them. Vehicles can cause a lot of damage when they are not operated with utmost care. Unfortunately, pedestrians are at an increased risk of suffering severe injury or death when involved in an accident with a motor vehicle, because they have no way of defending themselves from suddenly being hit.

California law clearly states that if a driver is involved in an accident, the driver must pull off the road at the scene of the accident. Oftentimes, a driver will flee the scene of an accident when they have engaged in other illegal activities. Failing to stop at the scene of an accident is punishable as either a misdemeanor or felony offense, depending on the circumstances. When a driver is involved in an accident with a pedestrian, a reasonable person would stop to inquire if the pedestrian was injured. Unfortunately, there are too many times when this doesn’t happen and the driver flees the scene. A majority of the time, through witnesses and police investigation the at-fault party is tracked down and ultimately brought to justice.

If someone you love was killed in a pedestrian accident, you may be able to file a wrongful death claim seeking compensation for damages, which may include medical expenses, funeral costs, lost future income and benefits, pain and suffering, emotional distress, and loss of companionship. While no monetary value can replace your loved one’s life, filing a wrongful death suit can bring justice and closure and help ease the stress of any financial burdens caused by their death. Many victims of hit-and-run accidents don’t realize that they are still entitled to compensation for their suffering caused by an accident, even when the at-fault driver leaves the scene and is not ultimately found. This is typically covered under California’s uninsured motorist coverage (UM).
