Chula Vista, CA (August 26, 2022) – On Wednesday morning, August 24, a multi-vehicle crash was reported in Chula Vista that left at least one person seriously injured.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 6 a.m. on southbound I-5 near E Street, when dispatch received a call requesting help for a vehicle rescue. The accident happened when a Honda CRV got rear-ended by another car, which led to a chain reaction of subsequent collisions with at least four other cars. The force of the impact was so great that it caused at least one of the vehicles to roll over and land on its roof.
The accident caused major disruptions in the area. Traffic was diverted while crews, which included the firefighters, paramedics, and police, helped people from their cars, tended to injuries, and cleaned up the wreckage. The accident caused the area to be shut down for a few hours. Officials report that at least one individual sustained severe injuries and is receiving further treatment at a local hospital.
