Fatal Motorcycle Accidents in California

Motorcyclists are very common in California. California has more registered motorcycles than any other state, due in large part probably to the favorable weather California enjoys year-round. Motorcycles are an environmental and economical choice for commuters, given the rising gas prices and increasing environmental concerns. However, motorcycles are a dangerous mode of transportation. Motorcyclists are just as entitled to share the roadways as other vehicles. All drivers owe a duty of care to watch for motorcycles and give them a buffer zone of space. However, that doesn’t always happen and motorcycle accidents unfortunately occur. Between 2014 and 2018, California recorded 2,655 fatal crashes involving a motorcycle. There are no safety features on a motorcycle, therefore, motorcyclists are extremely likely to incur serious injuries or death if they are in an accident with a vehicle.

There are many reasons motorcycle accidents happen, which are often the result of negligent actions of the other drivers sharing the road. Some factors that contribute to motorcycle accidents include lane splitting (California is the only state in which this is a legal practice), left-hand turns, cars not seeing a motorcyclist, tailgating, speeding, impaired driving, distracted driving, and road hazards.

There is nothing more devastating in life than the unexpected and sudden loss of a family member. When you lose a loved one, we understand that no amount of money could replace that person’s presence in your life. Filing a wrongful death suit against a negligent party can ensure that your deceased family member gets the justice they deserve and can help you to cope with their loss. Insurance companies have strict filing deadlines after an accident for filing a claim. A compassionate attorney can help you with this process, so you don’t have to worry about these matters when grieving your loved one’s death.
