Costa Mesa, CA (January 23, 2022) – A man was killed in a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian crash that took place at an intersection in Costa Mesa on Thursday night, January 20.

According to local officials, the accident happened at the intersection of Newport Boulevard and Industrial Way around 11:32 p.m. A 50-year-old male who was in a wheelchair was crossing the intersection when he was suddenly struck by the driver of a Toyota Highlander. The vehicle, which sustained front-end damage, fled the scene of the collision.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.

Pedestrian Accidents in California

More pedestrians are injured and lose their lives in accidents every year in California than many other states in the U.S. This is due to the fact that pedestrians have no protection from harm in the event of an accident. In 2018 alone, it was reported that approximately 893 pedestrians lost their lives in California pedestrian accidents. Many people believe that you’re safer as a pedestrian than you are in a vehicle. However, this is a common misconception, as many pedestrian accidents happen and take lives every year. In fact, these accidents are increasing every year. If you have lost a loved one in a pedestrian accident, you should be prepared to speak with an attorney that you can trust in your time of need.
