Covina, CA – Bicyclist Killed in Fatal Bicycle Crash at Cienega Ave & Sunflower Ave

Covina, CA (February 2, 2022) – On Monday, January 31, a bicyclist was killed in a fatal bicycle crash involving an officer in Covina.

Azusa Police Department officials confirmed that the accident happened at the intersection of Cienega Avenue and Sunflower Avenue. A bicyclist was traveling near the intersection while an officer on a motorbike was also approaching the intersection from another direction. The two vehicles collided with one another as they entered the intersection.

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The cyclist, who has not yet been formally identified, was seriously injured and rushed to the hospital. They were tragically pronounced dead while there. It is not known if the officer was injured.

Due to the severity of the accident, the intersection was blocked in the area for an extended period of time.

No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing. Police will update as more information becomes available.
