Dana Point, CA – Update: Michael John Mammone Killed in Bicycle Crash on Pacific Coast Hwy
Dana Point, CA (February 14, 2023) – Officials have identified the man who was killed following a bicycle crash in Dana Point on Wednesday, February 1.
The deadly accident took place on the Pacific Coast Highway near Crown Valley Parkway at around 3:02 p.m. It was reported that 58-year-old Michael John Mammone was riding a bike at the intersection when he was hit from behind by a car driven by 39-year-old Vanroy Evan Smith of Long Beach.
Smith proceeded to exit the vehicle and attack Mammone with a knife. Mammone was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. It is unknown what the connection was between the victim and the at-fault party.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the deadly crash is in progress.
