Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in California

In California, there are more pedestrian accidents reported than in any other state in the country. Pedestrians are at a high risk of suffering severe injury or death when involved in an accident with a motor vehicle because they are defenseless and have no way to protect themselves from suddenly being hit by a vehicle.

California has enacted a set of pedestrian favorable laws to try to reduce the number of pedestrian accidents in the state. According to California law, a driver must yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian at all crosswalks or intersections. Failing to follow this law and yield to a pedestrian will likely cause the driver to be liable for the accident. California law further states that if an accident occurs, the vehicles must pull off the road, at the scene of the accident.
