Irvine, CA – Pedestrian Killed in Accident on 405 FWY
Irvine, CA (January 4, 2022) – On Tuesday evening, January 3, an accident was reported in Irvine involving a vehicle and a pedestrian that tragically resulted in the pedestrian’s death.
According to reports from the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred a little after 7 p.m. when a male pedestrian attempted to cross the southbound lanes of the 405 freeway near MacArthur Boulevard in Irvine. A vehicle that was traveling south on the freeway failed to stop for the pedestrian and slammed into the person while he was in the middle of the roadway. The pedestrian sustained very serious injuries as a result of the collision.
Paramedics were immediately called and arrived on the scene within minutes, where they found the pedestrian lying in the roadway. The paramedics assessed the pedestrian’s injuries and provided medical care. The pedestrian sustained very severe injuries, and despite the life-saving attempts performed by the paramedics, the pedestrian passed away due to his injuries shortly after 7:30 p.m. The pedestrian’s name has not been released at this time, pending notification of his next of kin.
Police are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the crash. Officers shut down I-405 between MacArthur Boulevard and the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway to allow paramedics to care for the victim, police to conduct their investigation, and crews to clear the scene.
