Irvine, CA (March 20, 2022) – Injuries were reported in a critical pedestrian accident that took place on a highway in Irvine on Sunday morning, March 20.

According to police, the accident happened around 1:27 a.m. at 1600 Barranca Parkway. Police confirmed that a pedestrian was walking around the westbound lanes of traffic when they were struck by a vehicle close to the area of Red Hill Avenue. They were outside of a crosswalk when a black Ford Focus struck them. The driver of the vehicle was not hurt but remained at the scene.

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian, who has not yet been formally identified, was critically injured as a result of the accident. Their current condition is not yet known.

Due to the severity of the accident, the roadway was blocked in all westbound lanes of traffic. The roadway was closed around Aston Street.

No further details have been released but the investigation into the accident continues. Police will update with more information as it becomes available.
