Irvine, CA – Two Killed in Fatal DUI Crash at Spring Valley & Meadow Valley

Irvine, CA (July 18, 2022) – Around 8:05 p.m. on Sunday night, July 17, two people were killed in a fatal DUI accident in Irvine.

According to California Highway Patrol officials, the accident took place at the intersection of Spring Valley and Meadow Valley. When officials arrived at the scene, they discovered a Mini Cooper that was engulfed in flames and a Volkswagen Golf that had immense damage to its front end. It is believed that the driver of the Volkswagen was traveling at high speeds in the area when it slammed into the Mini Cooper from behind. The Mini Cooper ran into a parked vehicle as a result, bursting into flames.

Paramedics and several other local responders, including Irvine fire crews, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. Two people inside the Mini Cooper, as well as their dog, were tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries caused by the accident. The driver of the Golf was also hospitalized but is expected to recover.

Police said that the driver of the Golf was under the influence of drugs, as well as speeding at the time of the crash. The 20-year-old driver has since been arrested on several charges.

No further details have been released but the investigation continues. Police will update with more information as it is available.

We offer our condolences to the family and friends of the victims whose lives were lost in this accident.
