The services that emergency personnel provide to the public are so important that the law protects their activities while acting in the course of duty. California Law provides that a police car, ambulance, fire truck, or another emergency vehicle may disregard the rules of the road, so long as the emergency vehicle is engaged in an emergency and has its siren and lights activated. All drivers need to stop and yield to emergency personnel when they are responding to an emergency. Often the other drivers do not stop or yield to the emergency vehicle in time and cause an accident. These types of cases can be very complex to determine fault and liability. Therefore, you will want to document all the circumstances of the accident with as much detail as possible.
