California is a very densely populated state and has the largest population of any other state in the nation. Los Angeles is the biggest city in the state and the second most populated city in the entire nation. A car is a necessity for most people who live in California and therefore, leads to California having some of the busiest and most dangerous roadways in the country. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has reported that more than 4,100 people were killed in fatal car accidents in California in 2021, which increased from the previous year’s number of deaths. There are many reasons accidents happen in California, but the great majority of accidents are caused by reckless and negligent driving. Some common factors include texting while driving, speeding, impaired driving, inexperienced drivers, fatigued driving, inclement weather, roadway defects, equipment malfunction, road rage, and failure to follow basic traffic laws.
