California is reported to have the busiest and most dangerous roadways in the country. California has more than 27 million registered vehicles that flood California’s roads with traffic each day. Californians regularly experience long commutes and traffic jams. Car accidents happen daily in California, and many sadly result in serious injuries or fatalities.
Accidents in California are often very serious, because they often involve multiple vehicles, due to the volume of cars on the roads. California has many complex freeway systems that have multiple lanes of high-speed traffic. Multiple freeways interconnect and merge in the city centers. These interchanges between freeways have even more lanes of traffic and can be even more difficult for cars to navigate. Cars seem to be traveling in every direction, and people often make last-second decisions to change course and get on a different freeway. These areas can be very hazardous and can often result in collisions involving multiple vehicles. When vehicles are involved in a multi-car pile-up, the outcomes are often devastating, resulting in serious injuries or fatalities. In addition to the structure of the roadways that make them oftentimes challenging to traverse, other factors increase the likelihood of multi-vehicle collisions, including:
