Los Angeles, CA – Pedestrian & 3 Dogs Killed in Hit-and-Run DUI Accident at 5th St & Hill St

Los Angeles, CA (October 1, 2022) – On Thursday morning, September 29, a man and his three dogs were tragically killed in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident with a vehicle in Los Angeles.

According to reports from the Los Angeles Police Department, the accident occurred around 12:30 a.m. Police reported that a man was walking his three dogs and was crossing the intersection at 5th Street and Hill Street when he was suddenly crashed into by a speeding pickup truck. Before crashing into the pedestrian, the driver of the pickup truck had just been in an accident near 7th Street and Hill Street, which he was fleeing from when he hit the pedestrian. The driver did not stop when hitting the pedestrian and continued to speed down Hill Street smashing into more cars along the way before his vehicle finally came to a stop. At this point, the driver attempted to flee the area on foot. However, the police were in pursuit and were able to track him down and apprehend the driver of the pickup truck. The driver of the pickup truck has now been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Paramedics were immediately called and arrived on the scene within minutes and assessed the pedestrian’s injuries and provided medical care. The pedestrian was forcefully thrown to the ground by the impact of the pickup truck and sustained very serious injuries. The pedestrian and his three dogs were sadly pronounced dead at the accident scene. The identity of the pedestrian has not been released at this time.

Police are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the accident.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this tragedy.

Fatal DUI Pedestrian Accidents in California

Accidents happen every day in California. While pedestrian accidents are not as common as other kinds of accidents, more pedestrian accidents occur in California than in any other state in the country. When pedestrians are in accidents with vehicles, they are at a high risk of suffering severe injury or death because they are utterly defenseless and have no way to protect themselves from a sudden hit by a vehicle.

Accidents happen for a variety of reasons. However, reckless and negligent driving is always one of the main causes of accidents. Any time someone chooses to use alcohol or other drugs and then gets behind the wheel of a vehicle, their decision-making, reaction times and driving ability will be impaired to some degree. Furthermore, when someone is driving impaired, they often engage in other negligent activities, such as distracted driving, texting while driving, speeding, falling asleep behind the wheel, failing to abide by traffic rules, and failing to stop after an accident for fear of legal repercussions. However, all of these choices are negligent and can cause lasting harm to others, and they should be held accountable for their actions.

Losing a loved one is one of the hardest things to experience in life, especially when their passing is untimely. If someone you love was killed in a pedestrian accident as a result of someone else’s actions, you may be able to file a wrongful death claim seeking compensation for damages, which may include medical expenses, funeral expenses, lost future income and benefits, pain and suffering, emotional distress, and loss of companionship. While no monetary value can replace your loved one’s life, filing a wrongful death suit can bring justice and closure and help ease the stress of any financial burdens caused by their death.
