Moorpark, CA – Saul Martinez Killed in Head-On Crash with Box Truck on HWY 118
Moorpark, CA (September 16, 2022) – On Wednesday afternoon, September 14, one person lost their life as a result of an accident involving a vehicle and a box truck in Moorpark.
According to reports from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident occurred around 2:20 p.m. on the westbound lane of HWY 118. A box truck, driven by a 49-year-old man from Moorpark was traveling east on HWY 118 around a curve in the roadway, when it collided with a Mercedes that was traveling west, driven by 26-year-old Saul Y. Martinez, from Oxnard. The vehicles were significantly damaged by the collision.
Emergency personnel was immediately called to the scene. First responders arrived quickly at the scene and worked quickly to tend to the injured parties. Sadly, officials report that the driver of the Mercedes, Saul Martinez, died from the injuries he sustained in the collision. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the box truck was also injured and was transported by ambulance to the Los Robles Regional Medical Center for further treatment of moderate injuries.
The force of the impact caused significant damage to the involved vehicles. Highway 118 was closed in both directions for approximately two hours as paramedics tended to the injured, crews cleaned up the wreckage, and police conducted their investigation.
Police are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the crash.
