Newport Beach, CA – Three Killed in Fatal Crash in Construction Zone on Pacific Coast Hwy

Newport Beach, CA (May 12, 2022) – Around 12:45 a.m. on Thursday morning, May 12, three people were killed in a fatal crash that took place in Newport Beach.

According to Orange County officials, the accident happened at 3000 Pacific Coast Highway. A driver was traveling in the area when, for reasons that are not yet known, the driver struck a curb in the eastbound lanes. This caused them to strike a construction site. The vehicle and part of the construction site sustained damages in the accident.

Several local responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. Three people inside the vehicle, who have not yet been identified, were tragically pronounced dead at the scene. A total of three construction workers were hurt in the accident. The parties were hospitalized, though they are all expected to be okay.

Due to the severity of the collision, all lanes of traffic were blocked on the highway in the area of Riverside Avenue.

Orange County officials continue their investigation into the circumstances leading up to the collision.
