Fatal Car Accidents in California

In 2018, more than 3,500 people were killed in fatal car accidents in California, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Each year the number of serious and fatal traffic accidents has increased, even during the pandemic. In 2022, there were already over 1,000 deaths related to car accidents in just the first three months.

Accidents happen for many reasons, but most often due to some form of reckless or negligent driving, such as texting while driving, speeding, impaired driving, or simply failing to yield or stop at traffic lights and stop signs. Sometimes, poor road conditions and dim lighting on the roadways in the early mornings and late at night, and drivers not exercising extra caution during these times, causes accidents to happen. More than one-third of all road fatalities in the US are caused by reckless driving.
