San Clemente, CA (June 11, 2022) – On Tuesday morning, June 7, a man was killed in a fatal bicycle crash that took place in San Clemente.
According to California Highway Patrol officials, the accident happened around 1:25 a.m. at the intersection of Avenida La Pata and Avenida Pico. A bicyclist was traveling along the northbound lanes of traffic when he was suddenly struck by a passenger vehicle. The driver of the vehicle continued on and then abandoned the vehicle a little ways up the road.

No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
We offer our condolences and sympathies to the family and friends of the victim involved in this accident.
Bicycle accidents are not as common as other accidents in California but they do happen more commonly in California than many other states. The truth is, bicyclists have no protection from harm in the event of an accident. This means that they are more likely to become seriously injured or even killed in an accident. Between the years 2007 and 2019, it was estimated that approximately 1,672 cyclists were killed in California accidents due to the reckless acts of others, which amounts to approximately 129 people every year.
