San Diego, CA – One Killed by DUI Driver in Accident on SR-52

San Diego, CA (August 29, 2022) – On Friday morning, August 26, a crash involving a suspected drunk driver was reported in San Diego that killed one person in San Diego. A 23-year-old woman has now been arrested as a result of this tragic event.

Emergency personnel was called to the scene of a tragic accident around 2:45 a.m. on Friday when a driver crashed head-on into another car on westbound SR-52. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that a woman who was believed to be under the influence drove her Chevy pickup truck the wrong way on SR-52, in the area east of I-805. The impact of her truck striking the other vehicle, a Honda sedan, left the Honda severely damaged.

Paramedics were immediately called. They arrived on the scene within minutes and assessed injuries and provided medical care. The driver of the Honda, a 49-year-old El Cajon man, sustained very severe injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The female driver of the truck sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized for her injuries.

Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. The driver of the pickup truck has now been arrested and charged with driving under the influence in connection with this accident.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this tragedy.

Fatal DUI Accidents in California

Driving under the influence of alcohol is grossly irresponsible behavior that causes thousands of accidents in California each year. More than 1,000 people are killed each year in California by drunk drivers. However, the law is clear; in California, it is illegal for any person to operate a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.08% or higher, if the person is 21 years old or older, or 0.01% if the person is under 21 years old. Despite these strict laws and corresponding penalties associated with breaking them, California is struggling with an increasing amount of DUI accidents.

Losing a loved one is one of the hardest things to experience in life, especially when their passing comes tragically and without warning. Contacting a trusted wrongful death attorney can help with the important matters that need to be handled.

If someone you love was killed as a result of someone else’s negligent actions, you may file a wrongful death claim seeking compensation for damages, which may include medical expenses, funeral expenses, lost future income and benefits, pain and suffering, emotional distress, and loss of companionship. While no monetary value can replace your loved one’s life, filing a wrongful death suit can bring justice and closure to your loved one’s passing and help ease the stress of any financial burdens caused by their death.
