Many car accidents happen every day in California. Southern California is a highly populated region where a majority of adults own a car and rely on it for their daily commuting. As a result, California has some of the most congested roadways in the nation. It is reported that California averaged over 1,000 accidents each day in 2020. That is a staggering number of accidents, where many result in serious injuries or fatalities. Approximately 4,000 people die each year in California as a result of a traffic accident, a number which has steadily increased over the last decade.
The number one reason car accidents happen in California is due to reckless/negligent driving or driver error. These accidents are preventable if drivers would operate their vehicles dutifully and according to traffic laws. Accidents largely occur due to drivers’ negligence, including texting while driving, speeding, or impaired driving. Reckless driving dramatically increases a driver’s risk of being in an accident and causing great harm to themselves or someone else. People need to realize the great risk they are taking on when they answer that text message or exceed the speed limit to get through the traffic and reach their destination.
When your loved one is killed in an accident caused by someone else’s negligent actions, a wrongful death claim can be filed on their behalf by their next of kin. Oftentimes the loss of a family member causes the surviving family to incur various financial burdens. These may include medical bills, funeral costs, and lost future financial support. A wrongful death suit can help pay for the bills and other financial pressures that are piling up, and allow you to grieve without the added stress of strained finances. An experienced wrongful death attorney can help you with this process.
