San Marcos, CA – One Killed in Fatal Crash on I-15 FWY

San Marcos, CA (October 23, 2022) – On Saturday morning, October 22, a serious accident was reported in San Marcos that killed one person.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident occurred around 2:15 a.m. on the I-15 Freeway near Deer Springs Road. The police indicated that the crash involved a pickup truck and a sedan that merged into the same space on the freeway and collided with each other at full speed. As a result of the impact, one of the vehicles flipped over and rolled, and hit the guardrail.

Emergency personnel was immediately called to the scene. Firefighters and paramedics quickly responded to the accident and found a sedan and pickup truck, both with major damage to many parts of the vehicle. Paramedics worked quickly to help the injured. The CHP reported that the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office was requested to join the CHP. Sadly, one person sustained life-threatening injuries and died as a result of the accident. The identity of the person killed has not been released at this time.

There is no other information at this time about the other injuries anyone else sustained in the crash.

Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and the events leading up to the impact. The collision blocked a few lanes of the freeway for many hours as paramedics tended to the injured, police conducted their investigation, and crews cleared the wreckage.

We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased victim’s family at this time. Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this tragedy.

Our thoughts are also with anyone else injured in this accident. We hope for their full recovery.

Fatal Car Accidents in California

Each year, more Californians lose their lives in traffic-related accidents. In 2020, more than 3,800 people were killed in fatal car accidents in California, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which was an increase from 2019. In the first three months of 2022, there have already been over 1,000 deaths related to car accidents, which puts 2022 on track to have a higher number of deaths than previous years.

Accidents happen for many reasons. Research indicates that most often they are caused by some form of reckless or negligent driving behavior, such as texting while driving, speeding, impaired driving, or failing to yield or stop at traffic lights and stop signs. More than one-third of all road fatalities in the US are caused by reckless driving. Accidents can happen in a blink of an eye. On California’s congested roads, drivers should exercise caution and follow the rules of the road to try to lessen any chance of being in an accident. Sometimes, though, accidents are out of our control and happen no matter how cautious a driver is.

When your loved one is killed in an accident as a result of another person’s negligence, it’s important to hold that person responsible for their actions. Filing a wrongful death suit against a negligent party can bring justice and closure to your deceased family member’s passing.
