Santa Ana, CA (February 4, 2022) – On January 27, at about 8:30 a.m., officers from the Westminster Police Department were sent to Milan Street, north of Westminster Boulevard, in response to a traffic collision involving a pedestrian.
Officers found upon their arrival that a 12-year-old boy on an electric scooter was reportedly struck and injured by a compact SUV-style vehicle.
The car fled the area before the arrival of authorities.
Officers shut down the area to enable paramedics to treat the victim, police to investigate the incident, and cleanup personnel to scrub the scene. The child was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover.
An investigation remains ongoing at this time, and any witnesses were asked to contact the California Highway Patrol.
Our thoughts go out to the injured victim at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Being a pedestrian in the state of California can be very dangerous as an increasing number of pedestrians are being hit by vehicles. This is a growing problem for California and results in pedestrians sustaining very serious injuries or being killed on California’s roadways.
In fact, in 2018, California reported almost 900 deaths from pedestrians being hit by vehicles, which has increased by 25% since 2014.
Pedestrians in California should be aware of the dangers that may very quickly become a reality and should be on guard when around vehicles. There is nothing a pedestrian can do to protect themselves from a car suddenly hitting them, making them especially vulnerable to serious injuries or fatalities. However, by taking a few precautions and following a few safety tips pedestrians can try to keep themselves safe. The following tips can be very helpful:
If someone you love was hurt or killed in a pedestrian accident, you might be able to seek compensation for damages you’ve incurred. Filing a suit against the party responsible for your loved one’s death can bring closure to their passing and ease the stress of financial burdens caused by their death. Insurance companies have strict filing deadlines, so you will want to speak to an attorney soon.
If you have sustained injuries or lost somebody you love in a pedestrian car accident, speak with a legal advocate that you can trust. Please do not hesitate to contact a Santa Ana pedestrian accident lawyer by calling (888) 539-3154 to see how we can help you.
