Car Accidents in California

Car accidents can happen in a split second. Drivers are supposed to pay close attention to their surroundings and drive defensively to prevent accidents. However, with so many cars on the road, especially when drivers are speeding, cars can come from out of almost nowhere and cause an accident.

After a car accident, you may wonder what steps to take. Here is a list of a few of the important first steps to take after an accident.

  1. If physically able, document information about the accident while at the scene so that it’s fresh in your mind (i.e., make, model, color, and license plate number of the vehicles involved, and how the accident happened)
  2. Call the police as soon as possible, so they can record the accident and investigate
  3. Get the names and contact information of anyone else involved in the accident and exchange insurance information.
  4. Get the names and contact information of any witnesses (this information can be given to the police when they arrive)
  5. Seek immediate medical attention. Some injuries are not noticeable right away, so it is important to be checked out by a medical professional to determine if you may need further treatments.
  6. Report the accident to your own insurance company
  7. Contact a car accident attorney

A car accident can cause significant disruptions to your life, including new financial worries resulting from medical expenses, to vehicle repairs or replacement, just to name a few. Especially if you’re injured, you may be worried about how you will pay for your medical care, expenses, and lost wages if you can’t work for some time. Depending on the circumstances of your accident, you may be entitled to compensation from those who caused the accident.
