Santa Clarita, CA (August 31, 2022) – On Sunday afternoon, August 28, a serious multi-vehicle accident was reported in Santa Clarita that tragically killed three people and injured two others.

According to officials, the accident occurred around 4 p.m. at San Francisquito Canyon and Riverview Road. The Los Angeles Police Department reported that the collision occurred between a BMW and an older model Chevy Suburban that collided as they traveled on the roadway and entered the same space. The impact of the crash mangled each vehicle dramatically.

Emergency personnel was called to the scene. Firefighters and paramedics quickly responded to the accident and worked to help people from their vehicles and tend to injuries. Sadly, the accident was so severe, and the resulting injuries were so serious that three people tragically lost their lives as a result.

Two of the three victims have been identified as Spencer Thomas, 28, of Santa Clarita, and Shane Rivera, 41, of Glendale. Two of the people killed were occupants of the BMW and one person was in the Suburban. Two additional people were also critically injured in the accident.

The accident caused much damage to the involved vehicles and the area had delays as crews tended to the victims and cleared the scene.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims at this time. Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this tragedy.

Our thoughts are also with the other people injured in this accident. We hope for their full recovery.

Fatal Car Accidents in California

Southern California is one of the busiest and most dangerous metropolitans in the country. In California, more than 3,500 people lose their lives in fatal car accidents each year. Traffic-related fatalities have increased each year, even throughout the covid-19 pandemic. In the first three months of 2022, reports indicate that more than 1,000 people have died in fatal traffic accidents. There are many reasons accidents happen in California, including texting while driving, speeding, impaired driving, or failing to yield or stop at traffic lights and stop signs. With California’s congested roadways and long commutes, many drivers get impatient and break traffic laws. Research indicates that more than one-third of all road fatalities in the US are caused by reckless driving.
