Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Accidents in California

When a pedestrian is hit by a vehicle, they are very likely to suffer serious injuries or even death. California has a very pleasant year-round climate, and people are often outside. Unfortunately, as a result, California consistently has more pedestrian accidents than any other state in the country. Drivers need to keep a watchful eye on pedestrians to avoid hitting them. California law states that pedestrians have the right of way at all intersections and crosswalks. Therefore, the law states that drivers must yield to them, or else they will be found to be at fault for causing an accident and liable for any damages and injuries caused by the accident.

When someone hit a pedestrian, it’s unconscionable to think that they wouldn’t stop to render aid to them or call 911.  Unfortunately, when people break the law, their fear of getting caught and being held accountable for their actions is the only thing some people can think of, which results in them fleeing the scene of an accident. When people act in this manner, it reflects a flagrant disregard for the well-being of others. It is imperative that the suspect be brought to justice for the damage and harm they have caused. The police have lots of tools and resources for identifying a fleeing criminal, and they are very successful at finding their suspect and bringing them to justice.

If you or someone you love was injured in a pedestrian accident caused by someone else’s negligence, it’s important to hold that person responsible for their actions. In addition to criminal charges being brought against the person, you can file a claim for personal injury for compensation against the at-fault party.
