Fatal Motorcycle Accidents in California

Many Californians enjoy riding a motorcycle, for either their daily commute or as a hobby. There are more registered motorcycles in California than in any other state. The other drivers on the road need to be alert and watch out for motorcyclists and give them space to avoid hitting them. Unfortunately, that doesn’t always happen and motorcycles are involved in accidents with vehicles.

Between 2014 and 2018, 2,655 motorcyclists died in traffic accidents in California. There are generally no minor injuries when a motorcyclist is in an accident as the risk of serious injury or fatality is very high. Some of the most common injuries resulting from a motorcycle accident include:

  • Brain injuries
  • Head, neck, or spinal cord injuries
  • Paralysis
  • Disfigurement
  • Scarring
  • Burns
  • Lacerations
  • Internal damage
  • Broken bones, sprains, and torn muscles
  • Impairment of one or more of the 5 senses
  • Death

There are many reasons motorcycle accidents happen. Oftentimes, accidents result because of the negligent actions of the other drivers on the road. Some factors that contribute to motorcycle accidents include lane splitting (California is the only state in which this is a legal practice), left-hand turns, cars not seeing a motorcyclist, speeding, impaired driving, distracted driving, and road hazards.

Suddenly losing a loved one is devastating, especially if the accident that took their life could have been avoided. When you lose a loved one, we understand that no amount of money could replace that person’s presence in your life. Filing a wrongful death suit against a negligent party can ensure your deceased family member gets the justice they deserve and can help you to cope with their loss. Insurance companies have strict filing deadlines for filing a claim. A compassionate attorney can help you with this process, so you don’t have to worry about these matters when grieving your loved one’s death.
