Westminster, CA – Child Pedestrian Killed in Car Accident at Goldenwest & 21st St

Westminster, CA (January 9, 2022) – On Friday evening, January 6, an accident was reported in Westminster involving a pedestrian and a vehicle that tragically resulted in the pedestrian’s death.

According to reports from the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at the intersection of Goldenwest and 21st Street in Westminster. The accident happened when a Mini Cooper was traveling westbound on 21st Street and began making a left turn from 21st to Goldenwest Street. At the same time, a 3-year-old girl was crossing the street with her family when the driver of the vehicle failed to yield to the pedestrians and struck the child. It is unknown at this time why the driver did not stop for the pedestrians.

Firefighters and paramedics were immediately called to the scene. When they arrived, they found the child lying on the ground at the intersection. She had sustained very serious injuries as a result of the accident. Paramedics rushed her to the Children’s Hospital of Orange County, where she died from her injuries. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with the police.

Police are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the crash. Officers closed the area of Goldenwest and 21st Street for a time after the accident. The driver of the Mini Cooper has been arrested on charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving without a license.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this tragedy.

Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in California

Pedestrian accidents in California are sadly a very common occurrence. California has some of the most beautiful weather in the country, and people are outside more often than in other states, which may be why California also has more pedestrian accidents than any other state in the country. In 2018, California reported almost 900 deaths from pedestrians being struck by vehicles, which was a 25 percent increase from 2014. Unfortunately, there is nothing a pedestrian can do to protect themselves from suddenly being hit by a car, which makes them especially vulnerable. When a pedestrian is hit by a car, it is generally not a minor accident and results in very serious injuries or fatalities.

California law states that a driver must yield to pedestrians at all crosswalks or intersections. Failing to do so will likely cause the driver to be held liable for any accident that results. California law further states that if an accident occurs, the vehicles must pull off the road at the scene of the accident.

There is nothing worse in life than experiencing the sudden loss of a family member. While no monetary value can replace your loved one’s life, filing a wrongful death suit can bring closure to your loss and will hold the person at fault accountable for their actions and the harm that they have caused.
