It’s not surprising that California has a high rate of traffic accidents given that the vast majority of residents rely on personal vehicles to go from place to place. Not only is California one of the most dangerous states to drive in, but it also has more than 27 million cars on the road. It should go without saying that high traffic and very crowded roads are major contributors to the daily long commutes and traffic jams.
There is no question that motorists in California have a high risk of being involved in a car crash. Despite the common occurrence of crashes, nobody ever plans to be involved in one. It’s possible that drivers might reduce their overall risk by addressing some of the most prevalent causes of accidents.
Most of these risks, however, could be avoided if motorists exercised extra caution and care while behind the wheel. Each motorist must use due care behind the wheel to avoid causing harm to pedestrians, cyclists, and other drivers. When an accident does occur, though, it’s likely that a breach of this legal duty of care has occurred, and careless drivers may be held liable for a wide range of damages.
