Fatal Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accidents in California

Pedestrians are at great risk of suffering severe injury or death when hit by a vehicle because they are utterly defenseless and have no way to protect themselves from suddenly being hit. While pedestrian accidents are not as common as other kinds of accidents, more pedestrian accidents occur in California than in any other state in the country.

California law clearly states that when you are involved in an accident, you must pull off the road at the accident scene. Failing to stop after an accident is a serious punishable offense and will be charged as either a misdemeanor or felony. Police are very successful at tracking down drivers who flee the scene of an accident, due to the use of eyewitness information, traffic cameras, and other evidence, which helps them to identify who the driver was and bring them to justice. When a driver has severely broken the law and caused a serious accident, oftentimes they flee because they are fearful of the consequences. However, they must be brought to justice for the harm they have caused. Fleeing from an accident only leads to greater charges being filed against a person.

Losing a loved one is one of the hardest things to experience in life. If someone you love was killed in a pedestrian accident as a result of someone else’s actions, you may be able to file a wrongful death claim seeking compensation for damages, which may include medical expenses, funeral expenses, lost future income and benefits, pain and suffering, emotional distress, and loss of companionship. While no monetary value can replace your loved one’s life, filing a wrongful death suit can bring justice and closure and help ease the stress of any financial burdens you’ve experienced as a result of their death.
