Irvine, CA (November 5, 2022) – On Thursday evening, November 3, a pedestrian was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident in Irvine.
According to reports from the Irvine Police Department, the accident occurred a little after 9 p.m. Police reported that a pedestrian was walking on Von Karman Avenue just north of Dupont Drive when they were suddenly hit by a vehicle. The driver did not stop after hitting the pedestrian and continued to speed down the road away from the scene. The pedestrian was forcefully thrown to the ground by the impact and sustained grave injuries.
Paramedics were called and located the injured pedestrian who was down in the southbound lane in the 2200 block of Von Karman Avenue. Paramedics assessed the pedestrian’s injuries and provided medical care. Despite the paramedic’s efforts, the pedestrian died at the scene of the accident. The identity of the pedestrian has not been released at this time.
Police are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the accident. Police are searching for the hit-and-run driver who fled the scene.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this tragedy.
Pedestrians are at great risk of suffering severe injury or death when hit by a vehicle because they are utterly defenseless and have no way to protect themselves from suddenly being hit. While pedestrian accidents are not as common as other kinds of accidents, more pedestrian accidents occur in California than in any other state in the country.
California law clearly states that when you are involved in an accident, you must pull off the road at the accident scene. Failing to stop after an accident is a serious punishable offense and will be charged as either a misdemeanor or felony. Police are very successful at tracking down drivers who flee the scene of an accident, due to the use of eyewitness information, traffic cameras, and other evidence, which helps them to identify who the driver was and bring them to justice. When a driver has severely broken the law and caused a serious accident, oftentimes they flee because they are fearful of the consequences. However, they must be brought to justice for the harm they have caused. Fleeing from an accident only leads to greater charges being filed against a person.
Losing a loved one is one of the hardest things to experience in life. If someone you love was killed in a pedestrian accident as a result of someone else’s actions, you may be able to file a wrongful death claim seeking compensation for damages, which may include medical expenses, funeral expenses, lost future income and benefits, pain and suffering, emotional distress, and loss of companionship. While no monetary value can replace your loved one’s life, filing a wrongful death suit can bring justice and closure and help ease the stress of any financial burdens you’ve experienced as a result of their death.
