USPS Warns about Dog Bites during National Prevention Week

Although it may sound like a gag from a comic strip to some, postal carriers across the US are bitten by dogs every year and sustain sometimes serious or life-threatening injuries. According to reports referenced in the USPS news release, the most frequent victims of dog bites are:

• The elderly
• Postal carriers

Additionally, dog bites are one of the most-frequently reported public health issues and are responsible for as much as five percent of all emergency room visits.

The USPS was only one of several organizations across the nation that marked National Dog Bite Prevention Week with efforts toward public awareness and safety.
