Long Beach, CA – 14 Injured in Bus Accident on California Ave 

Long Beach, CA (November 16, 2023) – Fourteen people sustained injuries when a car and a bus crashed into one other and then slammed into a restaurant in Long Beach on Thursday,  November 9th, according to a spokesperson for the Long Beach Fire Department. Ten people were transported to area medical facilities for treatment of serious injuries, four of whom were placed on advanced life support.  

The incident took place at about 3:15 p.m. when a car and a public transit bus collided in the area of California Avenue and South Street. Both vehicles then crashed into the restaurant. 

Paramedics and fire crews responded to the scene to find 14 people with injuries. Two of the victims were occupants of the car who were extricated using the Jaws of Life. The other 12 were passengers on a Long Beach city bus. Officials stated that the scope of the injuries among the 14 adults ranged from mild to critical. 

An initial investigation determined that the sedan was traveling southbound along California Avenue well over the speed limit when the driver blew through a stop sign and collided with the bus, redirecting both vehicles into a restaurant on the first floor of a nearby building. No one inside was injured. Two people from the residences on the second floor were displaced.
