According to the Fullerton Police Department, the accident occurred on Valencia Drive around 5:30 p.m. The accident occurred when a 9-year-old girl was walking south on Valencia Drive in a crosswalk near Eadington Avenue when she was abruptly smashed into by a motorcyclist. Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Accidents in California

When pedestrians are hit by a vehicle or even a motorcycle, they are likely to suffer serious injuries or even death. Unfortunately, California consistently has more pedestrian accidents than any of the other states in the country. California has a very pleasant year-round climate and people are often outside either getting exercise or walking to or from school or work. Drivers need to keep a watchful eye out for pedestrians to avoid hitting them. Pedestrians have the right of way at all intersections and crosswalks and drivers must yield to them or else they will be found to be at fault for causing an accident and liable for any damages and injuries caused by the accident.

When someone has severely broken the law in this way, fear of getting caught and being held accountable for their actions often causes people to flee the scene of the accident. It is appalling to think that a person would flee an accident knowing that they have caused harm to another person and not even check to see if they are okay. When people act in this manner that displays such disregard for the wellbeing of others, it is imperative, that they be brought to justice for the damage and harm they have caused.

The police have lots of tools and resources for identifying a fleeing criminal. Fleeing the scene of an accident only compounds the problem and leads to greater criminal charges being filed against a perpetrator. California law clearly states that if a driver is involved in an accident, the driver must pull off the road at the scene of the accident. Failing to stop at the scene of an accident is a punishable offense and will be charged as either a misdemeanor or felony offense, depending on the circumstances.

If you or someone you love was injured in a pedestrian accident caused by someone else’s negligence, it’s important to hold that person responsible for their actions. In addition to criminal charges being brought against the person, you can file a claim for personal injury for compensation against the at-fault party.

If you or a family member were in a pedestrian accident you should speak to an experienced pedestrian accident lawyer right away, who can walk you through the process and help you understand your rights and what compensation you may be entitled to for your suffering.
