Mission Viejo, CA – Injuries Reported in Multi-Vehicle Crash on 5 FWY

Mission Viejo, CA (January 17, 2022) – On Tuesday morning, January 17, a multi-vehicle crash was reported in Mission Viejo that resulted in at least one person suffering injuries.

According to reports, the accident occurred on the northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway, just north of Crown Valley Parkway in Mission Viejo. The accident happened around 6:30 a.m. and involved many vehicles, including a Toyota sedan, Cadillac, Lincoln Town Car, Ford pickup, Hyundai, and a Chrysler 300 sedan. It is reported that the vehicles were driving near each other when one of the vehicles crashed into another and caused a series of subsequent collisions. It’s reported that the Toyota had front-end damage, and the Chrysler had significant damage all over, including to the left front and rear damage.

Emergency personnel was immediately called. Paramedics arrived on the scene within minutes and tended to the injured. At this time, there is limited information as to the number of people injured and the extent of their injuries. Paramedics reported that they transferred at least one person to the hospital. Tow trucks were required to remove several of the damaged vehicles from the scene.

The force of the impact caused major damage to the vehicles, blocked the roadway, and caused traffic to be backed up. Traffic was diverted while crews helped people from their cars, tended to injuries, and cleaned up the wreckage.

Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Our thoughts are with the victims injured in this accident. We hope for their full recovery.

Car Accidents in California

California is the most populated state in the country with the most registered vehicles as well, which makes it one of the most congested and dangerous places to drive. Every day roads are flooded with traffic, causing long commutes and traffic jams. Car accidents in California also happen daily and may result in serious injuries.

Many collisions that happen on California’s roads each day involve multiple vehicles. When traveling on freeways, you often see drivers weaving in and out of all the traffic. These impatient and speeding drivers can come out of nowhere and easily cause a collision. What starts as a two-vehicle collision can quickly escalate to a multi-car pile-up. When multiple vehicles are involved in an accident, the outcomes can be devastating, resulting in serious injuries or fatalities. Other factors that increase the likelihood of multi-vehicle collisions include:

  • Tailgating
  • High speeds
  • Changing lanes without signaling
  • Changing lanes too quickly
  • Blind spots
  • Stopping suddenly
  • Inclement weather
  • Merging traffic
