Orange, CA – Two Hospitalized After Fiery Wreck on I-5

Orange, CA (February 12, 2024) – Just before 1:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, a report of a stalled vehicle sent units from the California Highway Patrol to the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 at Chapman in Orange. While en route, officers received additional information that two vehicles collided with the stalled vehicle.

One of the three vehicles burst into flames and was fully engulfed when authorities arrived. Units from the Orange Police and Fire Departments arrived to assist while the CHP was on the way. One driver was trapped in his vehicle for approximately 20 minutes while firefighters worked to extricate him, and another victim was transported to UCI Medical Center for treatment in an unknown condition. The trapped driver was also transported to UCI with unclear injuries. No further details were released, but an investigation is still ongoing.

Our thoughts are extended to the injured victims and their loved ones. We hope for their full recovery.

Car Accidents in Orange County

Southern California is one of the country’s most congested and dangerous places to drive. Every day, millions of vehicles flood the roads and cause traffic jams and accidents. There are many freeways in Southern California, which are essential to mobility throughout the region. It is often a preferred method for commuting because of the higher speeds that can be traveled on the freeway.

However, the higher speeds on major highways and interstates increase the risk of accidents with severe injuries since drivers have less time to react to sudden changes or emergencies. Other behaviors that often lead to accidents in California include distracted driving, texting while driving, impaired driving, fatigued driving, tailgating, and failing to follow traffic laws.
