Tustin, CA (December 20, 2023) A man was killed while excavating a roadway on a worksite near Tustin in Orange County on Wednesday morning, December 20, according to local authorities.

The Orange County Fire Authority reported that firefighters were dispatched to Newport Avenue near Crawford Canyon Road at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday in response to a serious work accident that took place. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene, 15 feet underground in an excavation trench that had collapsed on top of him, per the OCFA. The details regarding his identity were not immediately accessible, and an investigation is still being conducted into the circumstances surrounding his death.
