Pedestrian Fatalities in Anaheim

The number of fatal accidents in California is increasing. In fact, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety, pedestrians account for 25.6% of all traffic fatalities in the state. The agency’s data for 2020 indicate that 6,516 pedestrians were killed in traffic incidents across the nation, an increase of nearly 4% from the previous year.

In addition, nearly a quarter (23%) of pedestrians killed in traffic accidents were struck by vehicles that fled the scene. In addition, according to the California Highway Patrol, drivers convicted of hit-and-run pedestrian deaths face up to 15 years in prison.

Driving under the influence of alcohol and driving while distracted are additional causes of fatal accidents.

Obviously, pedestrians in California should be aware of the imminent dangers and be vigilant when walking near vehicles. There is little a pedestrian can do to avoid a sudden collision with a vehicle, leaving them vulnerable to severe injuries or fatality. However, pedestrians can do their best to avoid these fatal incidents by remaining vigilant and observing their surroundings.

However, if a loved one was injured or slain in a pedestrian accident, you may be able to file a claim for compensation. Holding the responsible party accountable for the death of your loved one can bring closure and alleviate the financial burdens caused by their departure. Insurance companies have stringent filing deadlines, so you should contact an attorney as soon as possible.

If you have suffered injuries or lost a loved one in a pedestrian-vehicle collision, speak with a reputable attorney. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with an Anaheim pedestrian accident attorney by contacting Russell & Lazarus APC at (888) 539-3154.
