Covina, CA – 10 Hospitalized in Apt Fire on Conwell Ave

Covina, CA (April 9, 2024) – A two-alarm fire that destroyed a three-story apartment building in Covina caused ten hospital admissions on Sunday afternoon.

Flames broke out at the complex at 1159 Conwell Avenue. The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the site to put out the fire and rescue several tenants, some of whom were trapped on their balconies by the enveloping smoke. The fire, which was first reported by the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s Public Information Office, resulted in the evacuation of over 40 residents due to complications caused by the shutdown of gas and electricity. Eight of the people who were sent to the hospital had moderate injuries, others had more significant respiratory issues, and smoke inhalation was present in all victims. However, an investigation remains ongoing, and no other details were made available.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families.
