Orange Co, CA – Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident on I-405 Near Redondo Beach

Orange County, CA (April 8, 2024) – Authorities are investigating the death of an infant and the discovery of a young girl with moderate injuries on the northbound 405 Freeway on Monday after a deadly collision involving a hit-and-run motorist was reported in Redondo Beach.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Frank Salas, police were summoned to a medical emergency around 4:30 a.m. on the northbound 405 Freeway, close to the Sepulveda Boulevard/Howard Hughes Parkway exit. A 9-year-old girl was discovered on the right shoulder, and a baby girl was found lying in the road. The infant suffered severe traumatic injuries and was declared deceased at the scene, while the other child was brought to a hospital with moderate injuries.

Officers are investigating the connection between the victims and a black vehicle that a 911 caller reported seeing in the vicinity of where the children were discovered following a crash in Redondo Beach. During the morning rush hour, two northbound highway lanes were closed as CHP officers looked into the incident and launched an inquiry to find the hit-and-run driver.

We extend our sincere condolences to the deceased victim’s loved ones. Our thoughts also go out to the injured victims and their families in hopes of their full recovery.

Fatal Vehicle Wrecks in Orange County

Orange County, one of the biggest urban regions in California, has its fair share of traffic accidents every year. Car accidents continue to be a big worry for the locals despite the fact that the accident and mortality rates have dramatically decreased in recent years.

With millions of cars on the road, California is consistently ranked as one of the most high-traffic states, and auto accident deaths occur all too often. Every year, vehicle accidents claim the lives of around 30,000 individuals nationwide, and nearly 10% of the fatalities occur in vehicle collisions in California. Every day, automobile accidents in Southern California claim the lives of innocent drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and beyond.

However, the family or loved ones of a person killed in a vehicle collision caused by a negligent driver may have legal recourse in the aftermath. Typically, a wrongful death claim is filed by the head of the estate or a close family.  Generally speaking, filing a wrongful death case requires meeting two prerequisites. They are as follows:

  • You have to provide evidence that someone’s carelessness, recklessness, or intentional action resulted in your loved one’s death.
  • The family member filing the lawsuit must have suffered quantifiable losses as a result of the loved one’s death.
