7/28 Laguna Niguel, CA – Hit-and-Run Collision with Serious Injuries on Crown Valley Pkwy

Torrance, CA – Pedestrian Ralph Paccione killed in Hit-and-Run Accident on Artesia Blvd

Torrance, CA (October 29, 2022) – On Thursday, October 27, an accident was reported in Torrance involving a pedestrian and a pickup truck that tragically killed one person.

According to reports from the Torrance police, the accident occurred in the 2700 block of Artesia Boulevard. Preliminary investigations have revealed that a Ford pickup truck was traveling westbound on Artesia Boulevard at a high speed when it rear-ended a Toyota truck that was also traveling westbound. The Ford truck driver lost control of their vehicle and crashed into a pedestrian that was walking on the south sidewalk of Artesia Boulevard. After striking the pedestrian, the Ford truck continued driving out of control and crashed into a residence where the car was rendered disabled. At this point, the driver of the Ford truck exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

Paramedics and other emergency crews were immediately called to the scene and arrived within minutes. They tended to the injured pedestrian, but unfortunately, his injuries were too severe and he died at the scene of the accident. He has been identified as 78-year-old Ralph Paccione of Torrence. Paramedics also provided care to the driver of the Toyota truck, a 44-year-old man from Gardena. He was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Police are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the crash and are looking for the driver of the Ford pickup truck.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this tragedy.

Our thoughts are with the other person injured in this accident. We hope for their full recovery.

Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Accidents in California

Pedestrians are likely to suffer severe injuries or even death when hit by a motor vehicle. Unfortunately, California consistently has more pedestrian accidents than any of the other states in the country. In 2018, California reported 893 pedestrian fatalities from accidents with vehicles, which was a 25 percent increase from 2014.

Reckless and negligent driving always tops the list of main causes of accidents in California. Speeding is extraordinarily dangerous driving behavior. Speeding decreases the time someone has to react and maneuver their vehicle through traffic, which increases the chances of losing control of one’s vehicle and increases the chances of getting in an accident. When someone is driving at such high speeds, they are showing a reckless disregard for others.

When someone has severely broken the law in this way and their behavior has caused a serious accident, fear of getting caught and being held accountable for their actions, causes some people to flee the scene of the accident. However, they must be brought to justice for the damage and harm they have caused. Fleeing the scene of an accident does nothing but further compound the problem and leads to greater charges being brought against them. California law clearly states that if a driver is involved in an accident, the driver must pull off the road at the scene of the accident. Failing to stop at the scene of an accident is a punishable offense and will be charged as either a misdemeanor or felony offense, depending on the circumstances.

If someone you love was killed in a pedestrian accident as a result of someone else’s actions, you can file a wrongful death claim seeking compensation for damages, which may include medical expenses, funeral expenses, lost future income and benefits, pain and suffering, emotional distress, and loss of companionship. While no monetary value can replace your loved one’s life, filing a wrongful death suit can bring justice and closure and help ease the stress of any financial burdens caused by their death.
