Fatal Motorcycle Accidents in California

California’s moderate climate and beautiful scenery make riding a motorcycle an enjoyable pastime year-round. Motorcyclists are very common in California. Motorcyclists are entitled to share the roadways and other drivers owe a duty to watch for motorcyclists and respect their space. However, that doesn’t always happen and motorcycle accidents occur. Between 2014 and 2018, California recorded 2,655 fatal crashes involving a motorcycle. Motorcyclists are increasingly likely to incur serious injuries or death if an accident does occur, since they lack the basic safety features that vehicles have, such as seat belts and airbags. Therefore, motorcyclists need to protect themselves in any way they can by wearing protective gear and helmets.

There are many reasons motorcycle accidents happen. They often occur because of the negligent actions of the other drivers sharing the road. Some factors that contribute to motorcycle accidents include lane splitting (California is the only state in which this is a legal practice), left-hand turns, cars not seeing a motorcyclist, speeding, impaired driving, distracted driving, and road hazards.

There is nothing more devastating than the unexpected and sudden loss of a family member especially if the accident that took their life could have been avoided. When you lose a loved one, we understand that no amount of money could replace that person’s presence in your life. Filing a wrongful death suit against a negligent party can ensure that your deceased family member gets the justice they deserve and can help you to cope with their loss. Insurance companies have strict filing deadlines for filing a claim. A compassionate attorney can help you with this process, so you don’t have to worry about these matters when grieving your loved one’s death.
