Anaheim, CA (November 26, 2022) – On Wednesday morning, November 23, a pedestrian was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident in Anaheim.
According to reports from the Anaheim Police Department, the accident occurred early in the morning. A pedestrian was walking in a southerly direction in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Magnolia and Katella. Reports indicated that a pickup truck was traveling at a high speed and struck a pedestrian in the crosswalk. Authorities say that the driver did not stop after hitting the pedestrian and continued to speed down the road away from the scene. The pedestrian was forcefully thrown to the ground by the impact and sustained grave injuries.
Paramedics were called and located the injured pedestrian who was badly injured lying in the roadway. Paramedics assessed the pedestrian’s injuries and provided medical care. Despite the paramedic’s efforts, the pedestrian died at the scene of the accident. The identity of the pedestrian was initially not released pending notification of their next of kin. The California Highway Patrol later identified the deceased victim as 30-year-old Rick Dale Moore of Long Beach.
Police are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the accident. Police are searching for the hit-and-run driver who fled the scene.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim. Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this tragedy.
California is a beautiful state and people are often out enjoying the outdoors in California. Drivers need to watch for pedestrians and respect their space, yielding to them in all marked crosswalks, intersections, and other places where they encounter pedestrians. Pedestrians are completely defenseless and have no way to protect themselves from a sudden impact. When a pedestrian is hit by a vehicle, they are very likely to suffer severe injury or death. Sadly, more pedestrian accidents occur in California than in any other state in the country.
California law clearly states that a driver must pull off the road after an accident and exchange information with the other parties involved. Failing to stop after an accident is a serious offense punishable as either a misdemeanor or a felony, depending on the severity of the situation. Police are very successful at tracking down fleeing drivers thanks to eyewitness information, traffic cameras, and other evidence, which helps them identify the driver and bring them to justice. Fleeing from an accident demonstrates a gross disregard for others.
Tragically losing a loved one is one of the hardest things to experience. If someone you love was killed in a pedestrian accident, you may be able to file a wrongful death claim seeking compensation for damages, which may include medical expenses, funeral expenses, lost future income and benefits, pain and suffering, emotional distress, and loss of companionship. While no monetary value can replace your loved one’s life, filing a wrongful death suit can bring justice and closure and help ease the stress of any financial burdens you’ve experienced as a result of their death.
