Capistrano, CA – Fatality Reported in Crash at 15S & SR-73
Capistrano, CA (January 5, 2022) – On Wednesday evening, January 4, a serious crash was reported in Capistrano that resulted in at least one person’s tragic death.
According to California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 7 p.m. at the 15S and State Route 73 interchange. The accident occurred when a vehicle entered the southbound freeway and collided with another vehicle for reasons that are not fully known at this time. The collision occurred at full highway speeds and caused major damage to the vehicles.
Emergency personnel was called to the scene, where they found people were severely injured. Firefighters helped the people from their vehicles. Paramedics treated all those who were injured at the scene. Despite paramedics’ life-saving measures, it is reported that there was a fatality. It is not clear at this time how many people died in the accident. The name of the deceased individual has not been released at this time, pending notification of their next of kin. There is no information regarding how many additional people suffered injuries in the accident and if any were transferred to the hospital for emergency medical care.
Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and the events leading up to the impact. The accident caused police to shut down both the area for a time as crews tended to the victims and cleared the accident.
