Florence, CA – Two Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash Following Traffic Stop at Manchester Ave & S Broadway
Florence, CA (August 22, 2022) – On Friday morning, August 19, two people died and others were injured in a multi-vehicle crash that occurred following a police attempt at executing a traffic stop.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the accident occurred at the intersection of Manchester Ave and South Broadway in Florence, right off the 110 Freeway. The incident began as the police were attempting to pull over a vehicle, but instead, the vehicle did not stop and sped down the street, westward on Manchester Ave. The car fleeing from the police struck another car traveling southbound on Broadway and subsequently caused another two vehicles to get hit.
Emergency personnel was immediately called to the scene. Paramedics and firefighters responded quickly and worked to help the people from their vehicles and tend to their injuries. Two people, from the first car that was struck, sadly sustained such severe injuries that they died and were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The other vehicles involved in the accident sustained substantial damage. There is no information about the extent of the injuries of the other people involved in the crash at this time.
LAPD officers have detained two men in custody who are awaiting charges. The circumstances surrounding the accident are under further investigation by local authorities.
