Huntington Beach, CA (August 30, 2022) – On Saturday, August 27, an accident was reported in Huntington Beach involving a pedestrian and a police car that tragically killed the pedestrian.
According to reports from the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred about one block away from Sunset Beach. Just before dawn on Saturday, a police officer was responding to a call in the coastal community when he ran into a 45-year-old pedestrian that was walking in the area.
Paramedics were immediately called and arrived on the scene within minutes and assessed the pedestrian’s injuries and provided medical care. The pedestrian sustained very severe injuries and was transported to the hospital. Sadly, the person’s injuries were too serious, and the person passed away. The pedestrian’s name has not been released at this time. No one else was injured as a result of the accident.
Police are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the crash.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this tragedy.
Pedestrian accidents have some of the gravest outcomes, as pedestrians are especially vulnerable when involved in an accident with a motor vehicle. There is nothing to protect a pedestrian from an impact with a car. California has some of the most beautiful weather in the country, which may be why California also has more pedestrian accidents than any other state in the country. In 2018, California reported almost 900 pedestrian deaths from accidents with vehicles. This number has increased by 25 percent since 2014. And many additional pedestrian accidents caused serious injuries to the pedestrian.
