Rollover Vehicle Crashes in California

Tragically, rollover accidents are often more serious and deadly than other kinds of collisions, according to research conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). There were 6,358 people killed in passenger car rollover accidents in 2018 alone.

Moreover, a rollover can happen to any car or truck. Vehicles with a greater center of gravity, such as SUVs, trucks, and vans, are more top-heavy and hence more prone to overturn than other vehicles. That said, rollover rates for SUVs are lower overall than for other types of vehicles of the same age. Even worse, a rollover collision increases the likelihood that a passenger may be ejected from the car, increasing the likelihood of life-threatening injuries.

However, regardless of the type of collision, every motorist has an obligation to all other drivers on the road to operate their vehicle safely and responsibly and not cause any harm. This so-called “duty of care” under the law is likely breached when an accident occurs, making at-fault parties potentially liable for any subsequent injuries and various other damages.

These car accidents leave thousands with serious, life-altering personal injuries and often result in ongoing physical pain, trauma, and more, all requiring immediate and long-term medical care.
