Garden Grove, CA – Two Killed in DUI Accident on 5 Fwy at Carmenita

Garden Grove, CA (December 8, 2023) – A deadly vehicle accident caused the 5 Freeway near Santa Fe Springs to close in both directions on Wednesday, and police say a 19-year-old man from Garden Grove was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The first reports of the collision reached the CHP at about 1:40 a.m. A large rig was stopped on the side of the highway when it was struck by a Honda Accord just north of Carmenita Road, according to the CHP. The truck’s driver sustained only minor injuries, but two male passengers in the Honda died at the scene. The suspect driver was also transported to UCI Medical Center with injuries but was taken into custody following his release. An investigation remains ongoing, and no further details were provided.

We extend our sincere condolences to the deceased victims’ families. Our thoughts also go out to the injured victims and their families in hopes of their full recovery.

Deadly Vehicle Wrecks in Orange County

Multi-vehicle crashes are an unfortunate fact of life in the Golden State. After all, most Californians need a vehicle for their daily commutes, no matter where they reside. With nearly 27 million cars on the road, California is consistently ranked as one of the most high-traffic states, leading to even greater risk and danger when operating motor vehicles. Every day, travel times are made longer by traffic congestion, car accidents, and the sheer volume of vehicles on the road.

Unfortunately, there is seemingly always the chance of getting into a car accident on California’s roadways. No one ever anticipates being involved in an accident, but knowing the most common factors that lead to collisions and how to protect your legal rights after a crash are important.

Of course, every driver is expected to drive safely on the road to prevent injury to others. That’s why, when an accident happens, someone’s “duty of care” under the law has probably been broken, and that person or people may be held accountable for any injuries or other losses that result from the event. Tragically, thousands of people suffer permanent injuries due to auto accidents every year. Even at lower speeds, car accidents frequently cause severe injuries requiring immediate and ongoing medical attention.

Fortunately, a reputable vehicle accident attorney can assist you in understanding your options after an accident. You may be able to file a claim to be compensated for losses you’ve experienced as a consequence of the accident. The appropriate course of action for your specific case should be determined with the advice of an experienced lawyer.
