Las Flores, CA – Child Dead, Parents Hospitalized in Pedestrian Accident on Antonio Pkwy at Oak Tree Ln

Las Flores, CA (April 2, 2023) – On Sunday afternoon, April 2, in Orange County, three victims were struck by a driver that had jumped the curb, leaving an 11-month-old child dead.

On Sunday at 4:20 p.m., crews were dispatched to the site of the incident, located near the intersection of Antonio Parkway and Oak Tree Lane in Orange County. When emergency personnel arrived, they discovered a family of three people with major injuries and a silver Hyundai with a smashed windshield on the roadside embankment.

According to the California Highway Patrol’s report, the man, woman, and their 11-month-old infant were walking along the sidewalk when the vehicle hit them.

Per a statement from Thanh Nguyen of the Orange County Fire Authority, the three family members were transported to the hospital in critical condition. The CHP later verified that the child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

CHP reports that Hyundai’s driver, a man from San Clemente, was also transferred to a local medical center and later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of narcotics.

The northbound lanes of Antonio Parkway were closed as officials conducted their investigation.

An investigation remains ongoing at this time, and any witnesses were asked to contact the California Highway Patrol.

We would like to offer our sincerest condolences to the deceased child’s family. Our thoughts go out to the injured victim at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Pedestrian Accidents in California

There has been a rise in the number of pedestrian fatalities caused by car collisions in California. California is experiencing a rise in the number of pedestrians who are seriously injured or killed as a result of this issue.

In reality, California’s number of pedestrians killed by cars grew by 25% between 2014 and 2018, with nearly 900 documented deaths.

Californians who walk should be wary of the potential risks they face and cautious around cars. Pedestrians are particularly at risk for serious injury or death because there is little they can do to avoid being struck by a car unexpectedly.

You might be eligible to file a claim for damages if a loved one was harmed or died in a pedestrian accident. Taking legal action against the at-fault party can help you find closure for your loss and alleviate the financial strain caused by your loved one’s death. There are severe filing deadlines with insurance companies, so you should contact an attorney as soon as possible.
