Santa Ana, CA (July 16, 2023) – On Sunday night, July 16, a two-car collision occurred on a roadway through Santa Ana, causing injuries to at least one person.
Troopers from the California Highway Patrol and the Santa Ana Police Department said the incident occurred around 9:40 p.m. in the left northbound lanes of California State Route 241 at Highway 91. Two drivers were traveling in the area when the apparent rear-end wreck took place.
Local EMTs and fire rescue units were assigned to the accident just before 10:00 p.m. Per early reports, the accident injured at least one victim, although it is unknown how serious their injuries were.
After being closed for just over an hour, the roadway was opened. Still, authorities have not released any new information about the collision and are continuing their investigation.
Our thoughts are extended to the injured victims and their families at this time.
California is the most populous state in the U.S. and, in turn, accounts for around 12% of the total size of the country, making it the third biggest state in terms of area. Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose, and San Francisco are just a few of the highly-populated cities that call California home. Given its size, it’s hardly surprising that California has more cars on the road than any other state (nearly 30 million). More cars on the road, unfortunately, usually equals more accidents.
Tragically, the annual number of fatal vehicle accidents in California is the highest of any state. In fact, the highest number of vehicle deaths in California in 2021 occurred in Los Angeles County, with 4,651, according to California Statewide Integrated Traffic Reports System statistics. In seventh place, with over 200 fatalities, was Orange County.
Needless to say, statistics show that in a state of California’s size, auto accidents occur frequently. After all, our state’s major highways, city streets, and interstates are continually being used by motorists. All drivers should always use extreme caution and focus 100% on the road in front of them to reduce the likelihood of an auto accident.
That said, accidents continue to happen. And when you’ve been hurt in a crash caused by another driver’s negligence, you may have a number of unanswered questions in the aftermath.
